IBM's
iSeries Midrange Server |
|
The
majority of Compu-Tech's
business applications run on the IBM iSeries midrange server.
Most installations include an integrated Ethernet or Token-ring
LAN. Our programmers and technicians are thoroughly trained and
experienced in iSeries, Internet and LAN technologies. We are
particularly adept at designing and implementing business solutions
that utilize all of these technologies.
We can
work with your staff to provide a free evaluation of your LAN
configuration to determine any modifications to your existing
setup needed to support an iSeries with Compu-Tech's
software for your business.
Additionally, Compu-Tech is an authorized IBM Business Partner. This
means we can provide you with hardware quotations directly, often
at a discounted price, and any financing options currently offered
by IBM.

IBM's iSeries Midrange Server :: A Strategic Choice
for Your Business
IBM has not focused a great deal
of marketing attention on selling it's iSeries (rebranded AS/400)
line of midrange computers. In fact, the iSeries is packed
with powerful features; has a low cost of ownership; is extremely stable
and popular in the enterprise world; has extensive support for building Java and XML related
applications; is highly configurable; and integrates well with disparate
systems.
Feature Rich
When properly configured, an iSeries server can do all of the following.
- concurrently run OS/400, Java, Linux, UNIX
and MS Windows applications
- perform as a web server
- ensure the security of shared data by using encrypted digital certificates
- receive and send XML documents
- interface with, store and produce MS Word
documents, Excel spreadsheets,
and database files such as MS SQL Server, MySQL and Oracle — this
means that all of these sources can be used to provide input (front
end systems) to iSeries application programs
- create and send iSeries reports via email and fax
- integrate with disparate systems to display graphics and digital
images
- integrate with biometric systems

Lower Your Costs
If your business is in it for the long term, an iSeries solution
is something to seriously consider. Almost universally, independent
analyses conclude that an iSeries solution results in the
lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) over a 2-3 year period. Even though
the initial purchase cost of the iSeries is more than a clustered
server solution, the TCO is less because of the reduced
labor required to install, train staff and maintain the the iSeries.
These analyses do not even take into account the cost of server down
time which is significantly less with an iSeries.

Stable & Enterprise
Ready
The IBM iSeries operating system (OS/400) is the most stable and reliable
in the computer industry. Its integrated relational database (DB2)
is the most popular enterprise database in the world. The ability to
run multiple linux partitions on the iSeries platform
gives you unrivaled stability combined with versatility.

Supports Scalable, Portable Applications
The OS/400 operating system runs Java code natively
without using a cumbersome virtual machine. This gives it the fastest
implementation of platform independent Java applications
in the industry. Also, using the business oriented ILE RPG programming
language combined with the enterprise level performance of IBM's integrated DB2 relational
database, your core critical business application will run efficiently
with little down time thanks to the inherent stability of the iSeries.

Versatile Configuration
/ Systems Integration
The iSeries can be partitioned to concurrently run OS/400, UNIX, Linux and
a web server based on industry standard Apache technology.
In addition, adding an Integrated xSeries Server or an Integrated
xSeries Adapter allows your IT staff the option of
consolidating and integration the MS Windows workloads and
controlling them through the iSeries. This
integration can significantly cut costs, personnel and network maintenance
needs relation to stand alone Windows network clusters. This
means that programs that are based on OS/400, WIndows,
Linux or UNIX operating
systems can All be run on an iSeries computer
if it is configured properly. As noted above, the Integrated
File System (IFS) on the iSeries allows you to easily
integrate the iSeries with
disparate systems since spreadsheets, text and graphic files can be
stored and accessed on a PC hard disk.
